Lancôme Jucy Shakers

Lancôme recently launched a new range of lip products called Jucy Shakers. They look like mini cocktail shakers indeed and they're lip glosses. Like a true barista you're ment to shake them and then dab them on the lips, the consistency of this product is quite unique, it's kind of bouncy, very smooth and moisturizing. The gloss is unlike any other and it's very comfortable to wear. The shades are all very pretty and you get quite a nice selection of colors, each one have a different color and a different scent. The pigmentation is light but you can definitely see the color on the lips (especially with the darker shades). After the gloss wears off you are left with a subltle stain on your lips. I got the shade Boom-Meringue which is a lovely, sheer pink.

I think this product is really cool, another great concept from Lisa Eldridge, Lancôme creative director. Definitely go check them out and shake, shake shake ;)

Shake, shake, shake ;)

Blue Moon

Note to the reader: So here we are again...I know a little tight but...you know...are you ready for another chapter of my Shanghai stories? You know how it works...play the song, pour yourself a drink. This time I'll make it easy for you, I suggest a Cosmopolitan (here you can find the recipe).  Cheers!

Sometimes globalization rimes with homogenization. It’s a given with its ups and downs. Think about it, nowadays with Gps and mobiles we are always connected and we willingly gave away a little bit of thrill for comfort.
When I left for Shanghai I knew I was going to see super tall buildings, lights always on, the unbreathable air, those clubs just designed for us foreigners to enjoy. I knew the names, I saw the pictures on Google, I was ready.
Then on Friday Stig and his partner landed in Shanghai on their way back from Hong Kong. He took the weekend off before going back to his crazy work schedule and of course he wanted to get the best out of it. I met him at the Linx, the “it” club of the moment. Dark interiors, techno music pumping at insane volume, waiters hectically bringing champagne crates from one side to the other. I checked the label just to make sure, since there were so many bottles in front of me that I thought it was Fanta Lemon. Ok no, it was champagne.
I found Stig on the dance floor, trying to play cool surrounded by a group of models and in a second was in the middle of the room holding a glass of champagne. He was with a bunch of people so I said hello trying to get their names…impossible, the music was way too loud. Me on the dance floor of this club in Shanghai it all felt so…global…like something I could do at home, I wasn’t impressed.

After a while I saw Stig talking to his partner and then he told me: “Out of here in 15. Next stop Bar Rouge.”
Those two together are a strange couple: true gentlemen that can go crazy in a snap.
Bar Rouge: a huge terrace with red lights facing the Bund. The music is definitely nicer here, you can dance and the cocktails are quite nice. I don’t know how Sting and his partner get us in skipping the very long line and without paying of course.
I saw that place online, through the pictures and let me tell you that view if quite something. While I was still soaking in what I had in front of my eyes I heard a voice “In 15 we go to Mint. C’monnnn!”. I saw Stig with a Montecristo cigar in his hand. I was about to ask but I decided not to. Sometimes ignorance is the way to go.
Ok at that point things begun to get challenging, my Gianvito’s are pretty comfy…as comfy as a 5inch heel can be. I was not really into that crazy night anymore but complaining wasn't an option.
“We are friends of D.” Stig partner said to the long legged Kill-Bill-like girls outside the club, they have a list of those lucky ones who can get in. The Mint is a very exclusive club, it even won I don’t know what kind of World prize for that. I already spotted their hateful look and I started feeling a bit out of place.
“Who’s D.?” I asked
“He’s the boss”
“Do you know him well?”
“Never seen him in my life but he's friend of a friend…”
One day they’ll get caught and the bail to get them out will be insane.
When we finally got in I reluctantly had to admit that the club was really cool: dark as the others but definitely classier, with an edge, not tacky. My eyes start to wander and I saw a long corridor who led to the dance floor. The corridor was in fact an aquarium with real sharks in it. Ok I’m impressed now. So I was back on track surrounded by a mixture of exotic beauties from all over the World. I realized Sting & Co. are not behind me, last time I saw them they were chatting like old friends with two Australian girls, probably they’ve never met before.
It was almost 3am and the club was still packed when I felt someone grabbing my arm.
“You have to see the best part of the club” said Stig
“If you mean the bathroom, I already checked it out. Pretty awesome uh?!”
“Bathroom? I’ll use this again as a joke. Come on.”
On the opposite side of the entrance there was another room which is actually a pretty fancy restaurant. Now it was pitch black and I hold onto Stig’s arm in a desperate attempt not to bump into something.
Now I can see it, out of the blue a big window where you can see Shanghai skyline. Stig grabs a table so we can sit and admire this stunning view. We can hear the music, quite far away now and in that dark silence we both got lost in our thoughts.
“The night I first arrived in Shanghai they brought me here for dinner. The buildings were all illuminated. I was stunned. I was running away from a very deep pain who had been chasing me for a while and seeing all this in front of me give me the will to be amazed again, to be curious, to explore. The first smile after a very long time. Seeing it all again now, even though the lights are off gives me the same kind of emotion. This is what I love about this city: it can makes you feel like this even in a club when is the least thing you'd expect.”
“Are those ghosts gone now?” I tried to ask.
“No. But I found Shanghai again” he replied still looking outside with his face illuminated by the moon. Yes there was a full moon that night. Hit and sunk.
Things like this you can't really see on Google. Maybe nowadays the beauty of discovering a place is not just by visiting it but through the  feelings and experiences of those who lived those places before you did.
We stayed there in silence for a little more until we heard Stig partner screaming “In 15 minutes Zapata!!!”.
But we'll talk about that and the drunk hostess we found outside the Mint another time…

Vi ricordate come funziona?

No, è proprio champagne.

“I bagni? Questa battuta la rivendo come mia. Vieni.”

I grattaceli erano tutti illuminati. Rimasi folgorato.
Silenzio. Forse non dovevo chiedere.
“No.

March favourites

It's been a while since my last favourites post but this past month I discovered some true gems and I wanted to share them with you! As you can see we're mainly talking about skin care. In my recent trip to Asia I had the chance to try some new products and test out new brands such as Boscia. I always heard good things about this brand and I have to say it's true, their products are awesome. I got the Luminizing Black mask, one of those thick in consistency that you peel of after 30 minutes. It remove all the dirt, un-clog pores and brightens your complexion! I'm hooked! Next I have a cleanser from InnisFree which is a Korean inexpensive brand very popular in Asia. They have many different types but I went for the Minimum Facial Cleanser which is targeted for sensitive skin. It's a foam, very gentle that cleanse your skin without stripping it. Talking about make-up I was on a mission to find the Laneige BB Cushion and I went to Sephora specifically for it (and ended up spending too much money with lots of other stuff). I'm sure by now you've seen this kind of products before, Lancome makes a great one for example but Laneige was one of the first brands to release it. It's a BB cream with SPF 50 that provide a very natural look. Considering it's a BB cream the coverage it's insane and sits on the skin beautifully. If you like a natural look you would love it. In that packaging you get a flat sponge for application and a refill which for the price (around 45 euros) it's a great deal. The only downside is the color selection so if you have the chance try to go to a store to try them. Next I have a lipstick from Une one of my favourite natural brands. It's in the shade R02 and it's a gorgeous "your lips but better" shade, very hydrating and lovely with any makeup (or non) look. My fragrance of choice is from Byred and it's Rose of No Man's Land, it has notes of pink pepper, Turkish Rose Petals, Raspberry Blossom, Papyrus and White Amber. Definitely give it a sniff if you find yourself near their counter. For jewelry I wore load my Céline knot bracelet in rose gold, nothing to say it's just a gorgeous piece that add a touch of humph to any look. Last but not least I'm obsessed with Funko Pop figurines! They have so many, based on Cartoons, Tv series, Movies...and they're all so cute! Check out their website...I promise you'll want one too!
I hope you like to post and I wish you all a great Sunday!

Un vero must!
Parlando di profumi, quello che ultimamente adoro e Rose of No Man's Land di Byredo.

Shanghai where to shop: mini shopping guide 2.0

Let's talk about shopping. Shanghai is big, full of malls and to be honest after a while they all start to look the same. So depending on what you're looking for you should definitely have a plan.

If you're into beauty and skin-care you're in the right place. There are tons of different beauty shops and my favorite are Watsons, Innis Free, Tony Moly and Sephora. Sephora carries a few interesting brands that are hard to find in Europe like Boscia, Laneige, Stila as well as many widely available brands such as Lancôme, Dior, etc. but they have specific ranges of products exclusive to Asia. Most of them are sunscreens and whitening bases because having a bright, light complexion is a must in Asia. You cannot leave Shanghai without a few sheet masks in your suitcase. I mean you can find them basically anywhere!  I went a little bit crazy in that department...and I have a huge skin care post coming up so keep your eyes peeled for that!

The annoying part is that in most of the shops they don't really speak English and on the packaging there's no other language than Chinese or Korean...so it's quite hard to pick the right product for your skin...but the staff is really friendly and they'll try to help you as much as they can.

Talking about fashion Uniqlo is definitely the most popular chain there, great if you're looking for basic pieces at affordable prices but if you deeply love fashion the true gem is Xintiandi Style Shopping Center. It's not you're average Mall, there you can find an amazing selection of independent brands and really cool, unique pieces both from Chinese and international designers. If you're tired of big Malls take a stroll in the French Concession, one of my favorite parts of Shanghai. The area is filled with small boutiques, where you can find amazing jewelry, clothes, home decor as well as cafes and Bars where you can rest while enjoying a drink with your friends.

Last but not least you should absolutely check out the fake markets. There's one for technology, one for glasses and sunglasses where you can get a pair for about 30 euros and yes, you can have your eyes tested for fress!  There's also another one where you can find a little bit of everything including clothes and accessories. I went there with my friends who had been there before so they taught me a few tricks and it was really funny to found myself in such a quirky environment!

At one point I found myself in the middle of the craziest negotiation ever...one of my friends was looking for a new phone and he knew this Jimmy guy at the market...so we where there...they even gave us a bottle of water (serious business makes you thirsty) both my friends started the negotiation and after a while the counter was crammed all kind of electronics you could imagine. Then out of nowhere I became part of the game...all the three of them were tring to convince me I needed a new phone but that didn't happened in the end ;P. We went back to the hotel with Jimmy to arrange the deal and while we were sipping a delicious Mango Bellini in the lounge, he got a phone call...he sold my friend the wrong phone...so they had to go back to the market to exchange it for the right one. At that point the market was closed, but hey no big deal, you enter the empty and dark building and voilà...it all worked out fine eventually!!...for those of you who are wondering...yes one of them was Stig of course and if you enjoyed reading about our crazy stories in Shanghai don't forget to check back on blog next monday for another chapter!

Well I could go on for hours because there's so much to share about this city but I hope you enjoyed the post!

I miei preferiti sono Watsons, Innis Free, Tony Moly and Sephora.
